Red Leaves I know it's autumn when I see The changes in our maple tree. The mass of leaves, in darkest green Are switching color and I've seen So many shades of rose and red. Of orange and crimson. How I dread The day that they begin to fall. To lie in piles along the wall. For that means autumn's at an end And winter's just around the bend! Joyce: Thanks. I don't want to stop autumn, which I love, but sure wish I could do something about winter, which I don't! Betty Lou Hebert |

Trillium, where i live we dont really have a true autumn, so this poem calls to my mind an imagined romantic autumn that i've rarely seen. the autumn of charlie brown cartoons. very nice. Annie :- |

Betty, this is a great poem. I am happy for autumn but the change in color for us means raking, raking, raking. We have a huge maple in the backyard. Hugs, Marti |

A. L. Becker: Thanks for your response. Glad you liked the poem. I lived in Nevada for awhile and missed the colorful change of season, when autumn appears. Betty Lou Hebert [This message has been edited by Trillium (09-06-2002 05:40 PM).] |

Marti: Thanks for commenting. We love our big maple tree too. My husband usually picks up the leaves a little at a time, with the bagger and then we use them to cover other plants. We lost 1/3 of it to an ice storm in 1996 and wondered if it would survive, but it has made an amazing come back. Betty Lou Hebert |

Betty, a lovely poem. Battle not with monsters lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you. - Friedrich W. Nietzsche |

you do wonders with images Betty. Great read. the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |
