I'd like to dedicate this poem I wrote about my mother to Janet Marie.
The idea for this poem originated from when I was a kid and there was one of the old wind up gramaphones in the parlour of my grandparent's farm. I think some on this board will remember the RCA Victor Gramaphone that stood on the floor and came with a little statue of a Dalmation dog. The dog was listening to the sounds coming from the big horn speaker and the RCA slogan was "His master's Voice."

A namesake kin a mother's touch
the breath of life her endless love.
Her swollen dreams the growing watch
are mother's gifts we gain a spot.

Like an open moon she leaves her mind,
like a common poet her reasons rhyme.
The burden light we tow the line
for mother's love we make the time.

His master's voice wound up to spin
played yesterday and fashioned friends
and mother's breast held fantasies
were playgrounds where young hearts were free
and Jolson's made me love you lines
were heard when new born infants cried.

Dear mother's care pursues on call
like sun shines through a waterfall,
like snow melts in suns of spring
and little things like mother's wing.

Lying words disguised as wise
fall on mother's love that never dies.
Her breast loved champions arise
with mother's love the guiding light.

His masters's voice wound up to spin
played love songs to young mothers when
golden dawns brought days of peace
and candlelight brought easy sleep.
True rhapsodies flowed through the point
with analogs for mother's joy.

Ethome,
thank you for this, I am deeply touched by you sharing this lovely tribute to your mother with me.
It is a very beautiful love filled, graceful poem.
When I posted the poem for Rachel, I had in mind to pay her tribute...
but all of you payed me tribute with your wonderful, encouraging replies and I am so touched by this...
BUT I truly need to say that I am no more
special than any other loving mother.
I do nothing more than every other mother
does on any given day.
We love our children and its just second nature to want to spare them pain and sorrow.
Thank you for making me feel very special.
with respect,
jm

Thank you for your reply Janet. I think what I am trying to put across here is a reflection of your very words. All mothers are so special in their own unique way. I am so thankful for the love shown (by all mothers) that I wanted to try and put it in words. Years ago I wrote this poem, your situation made me recall it. Just a gentle thought from me. Smiles to you!

There could be no better tribute than this to the amazing qualities of mothers...

Truly wonderful.
Ethome, Thanks for sharing this one ...
I had recently posted my own poem, a little something I wrote for my Mother, and now I read this one... I am so touched..

regards, sudhir.

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee,
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
