This is a poem about a decision I must make. I live in North Carolina and fell in love with someone who lives in Indiana. We want to be together but there are many obstacles. I am 23 years old and still live with my Dad who I love so very much. I was recently offered a social work job up where they live. My dad doesn't know it yet but I am planning on moving. He is on vacation, so I haven't had time to tell him. But I know his response isn't going to be so great. This was very hard for me to write about, but I am glad I have.

Decision
Amy M. Kennedy
She sits and contemplates
So many decisions weighing on the mind
Knowing what she wants
The question is just a matter of time

Should she go...or should she stay
She just knows there's more out there
Wants to make her mark
And create her own design with flare

He surely won't approve
And will list his reasons why
But she is just so tired of listening
She just wants to fly

He's her dad and loves her so
But often times his love feels like chains
She just wants to see sunshine
So tired of the endless rain

Why can't he see what she does
That this has nothing to do with him
And that she has thought this all out
It's not some crazy absurd whim

She's in love
That's the facts she can't deny
Sure she could pretend and lie
But the truth always comes out
No matter how we try

But this is about freedom and opportunity
And making a new start
But it's also about a feeling
She has way down deep in her heart

She wants to spread her wings
And see what it's like to fly
Doesn't want to one day be sitting
Wondering how life passed her by

She is young, and time is on her side
But it won't always be this way
We aren't promised tomorrow
Only have today

She thinks of her love again
And slowly starts to smile
Knowing in the end
This will all be worth-while

1000 miles it sounds so far away
But she knows her choice is right
The time has come
For her to spread wings, take flight

New horizons, a brighter tomorrow
Her eye is on the sky
And she'll be back
This isn't a forever goodbye

Her dad is her heart
He means more than he knows
But a choice must be made
She's prepared for all the curves
Life loves to throw

He comes home in two days
She knows just what she'll say that day
Holding her head high
She'll say to him...Dad, I have something to say

I love you and I'll miss you
But this isn't about you...it's about me
I know it's hard and it hurts
But you must learn to set me free

You are my heart, one of my best friends
This will never change or end
And no matter where I am
Forever my love to you I send

"Fate exists but it can only take you so far,
Because once you're there
It's up to you to make it happen."

Making decisions are always difficult...but when it is a decision like this to make, I shudder to think what way  I will go, on one side you have loved all your life, and on the other side the future counterpart of your life...sounds really difficult...

This is a difficult crossing to cross, but I am sure that your father will understand. after all Fathers are for understanding their children... They will always think the best for their children...I wish you luck, Amy.

yes, before I forget, let me congratulate you on a very well written poem...

regards, sudhir...
P.S. BEST OF LUCK...

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee,
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;

AMY...A very nice poem,well written!

I would have done anything to have a relationship with a dad like yours.

You love your dad, your dad loves you!

He will want to know(and perhaps meet)
the person you fell in love with...
just so he knows/hopes you will be safe.

Doesn't matter how far the distance...
there are boats, planes and trains to
keep a relationship alive with your dad!

I wish you luck and happiness with your love.

seems to me alls been settled in your mind
and heart...you know you have to live your life for yourself...not someones elses image of you...
parents learn to let go in stages ...
give him time to accept each new step...
he will catch up and be right along side you in time.
great writing out of your heart amy-girl...
take care,
you know Im here

Amy..
I can imagine how difficult this must be...
I do not know you or your Dad but I am sure he will understand.....or he may deep inside have been waiting for this moment...preparing for it....he loves you I am sure and so I am sure he will understand..
Wonderful heart felt poem...

Julie :)
