each day ~ her steps led her over the same worn path < !signature-->each day ~ her feet touched the same smooth stones each day ~ her eyes beheld the same tired visages she walked a lonely trail, safe inside her castle walls heeding the tales told of dragons, and sorcery, and evil spells in the world just beyond this safe, stately granite fence the world just beyond that heavy barred gate heeding well the fears embedded firmly in her heart each day ~ her heart yearned to venture forth each day ~ the unknown called with reckless voice each day ~ she moved closer to the time worn Portal waking deep in the night, heart pounding in her chest she knew she must go now and seek the key to the gate donning a thick woolen dress, a heavy cloak, and stout boots she crept to the Portal, hesitatingly touching the aged wood tugging and pushing was no avail, the gate moved not! frantic to quell her discovery until she had satisified her need to see what lie outside the heavy door, to see life, to become unafraid she spied an old oak tree, and made her way up the stout trunk branch after branch, higher and higher, she climbed pulling herself up, she could finally see beyond her haven's wall eyes wide in surprise ~ there were no dragons~ no sorcerers she gasped aloud and then laughed right there on that tree branch the world outside was beautiful, the colours so vibrant just past the gate was a lovely fountain, tinkling in bright daylight surrounded by roses and lovely water maidens playing in the grass in the crotch of that old oak lay a golden key glinting in the moonlight, with a tiny tag that read 'I am the Portal to your Heart, use me' puzzling over these words, she dismounted the tree to try the gate's stiff lock, the key slipped right in and the rusty gate gave way with a protest and a screech the sounds and colours, flooded her stone garden as she stood bathed in warm light, smiling at the world outside the world within stood quiet, dull and grey ~ ashamed the world without rejoiced in itself ~ glorious hue and tone! and leaving the Portal stair, she walked forward into the sun "Our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything." --William Shakespeare [This message has been edited by X Angel (edited 06-20-2000).] |
