If you listen closely you can hear
A sound coming through loud and clear
Through the forest and past the trees
His harmony travels on the summer breeze
A lonesome deep mournful howl
Signals he is out on the prowl

He pads along the forest floor
Until he reaches the sandy shore
Pausing by the the cold lake water
He'd go for a swim if it were hotter
Now he bows his head to drink
The moon reflects his tongue of pink

He sets off along the beach
Hoping he'll be able to reach
The summit of the mountain's peak
Before the clouds begin to leak
Walking up the mountain clearing
He can feel the storm is nearing

Stopping there dead in his tracks
As the sky turns to deepest black
He lifts his head to the clouds
The way he looks is very proud
From his gut comes a powerful sound
Richer and more beautiful than any around

Beautiful and haunting like a wolf's song itself. I love wolves, you know the Huskies type wolves. Beautiful creatures.

Beautiful imagery Lone Wolf, you've captured your namesake's vision so well.  There is something so incredibly beautiful about seeing the silouette of a wolf howling into the night upon mountain top. Wonderful submission for the book!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Lone Wolf, this was superb! You have my vote too. I have a wolf hybrid companion who is 70% pure. Her name is Kisma. If you are interested in seeing her & her sister Shasta's pictures as puppies and adults, go to my website in one week. I should have all my family pics up

Wow! What a vision you implanted in my mind. You did capture the beauty and lonliness of an animal so misunderstood. Nice Job

LW~
wow! the powerfulness of this blew
me away. i have come to expect great
work from you, but this i was not
prepared for! beautiful vivid imagery
you have created. i could see the whole
thing in my mind. wolves are one of the
most beautiful and mystical creatures on
Earth in my opinion. Too bad they are so
misunderstood by humans. They also are very
intelligent if you ask me. Loved the image
of the proud wolf howling into the night
admist the top of a mountain! Spectacular!
Take care.

Beautifully eerie, pleasing nature all around

My mother has two wolfdogs, and they are very powerful creatures with a haunting voice and a yellow gleam to their eyes. This poem just reminded me of the prowess that your poetic words animated in my imagination.
