It's really real and it's not really a feeling I like to feel. Sort of like taking a cold shower, you know all freezin cold and pleasure free. Anyway that's the reason I titled this poem.... A DOSE OF REALITY "Oh my goodness look how she stands out in the crowd. Please let my presence present myself to her just as loud. I can't wait to tell her how much I care in anticipation of all the joy and happiness the two of us will soon share." Then quite abruptly a dose of reality jumps into my head and rudely announces..."Perhaps you would like to reconsider all those thoughts you just had. Romantic love cannot be based on how much one individual cares. It's determined by the desires that 2 lovers eagerly want to begin to share. All of those feelings must be mutually known and not plans and schemes that you own alone. You must always beware if only one hopes and cares cause the luster will vanish quickly into the night air. leaving only a loss of tranquility in the place where you hoped someone would stand who cares." And once again you'll sadly hear a Dose of Reality as it screams "Love does not really exist as it seems, Love only lives in hopes and dreams." Jameslee@June16,2000 I was thinking about Love and mutual attractions. I have written at least 12 poems on this subject and than I read Janet's "Lessons of a Butterfly" and Marina made a comment about how "Love is not always a two way street." And this is a real truth about Love. When we give Love, we don't always get love back. And it seems to me that is a TRAGEDY. Does love have any value if the object of our affection rejects our Love? Must love be a loss of tranquility and another Dose Of Reality? [This message has been edited by jmlee12345 (edited 06-16-2000).] |

James These are the very fears of being in love...that exactly is why people find it difficult to declare their love. Questions you put forward are those which I keep asking myself, and yet have not found most satisfyingt answers... but then, life is a quest, and the quest is for life... "Does love have any value if the object of our affection rejects our Love? Must love be a loss of tranquility and another Dose Of Reality?" ....... Very thought provoking writing James... Regards, and take care my friend, sudhir |

james I think you speak true words here my friend. But all is not losted, I think REAL love can, will, and does exsist. It all lies within the heart and soul of two people who were placed on this earth to be together. There is truly someone for you James. I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt!!!!!! ![]() Take care my friend, Hugs..... Marina |

I believe that many things in life are sad, yet beautiful. One of the beautiful things that brings me a smile is to read poetry from someone like yourself and reflect on the enchanting piece of work. The sadness of love may be being a one way course, but the beauty of the ideality of love can be worth it, no? |

Here is a story that I think answers your question about love being worth something when you get none of it back. Sorry if it seems to long to post here, but I thought it was worth the space. Enjoy. PS... I liked the read. Well done. One day, a young woman was standing in the middle of the town, proclaiming that she had the most beautiful heart in all the valley. A large crowd gathered and they all admired the heart for it was perfect. So smooth and unblemished, there was not a mark or a flaw in it. Yes, they all agreed. It was the most beautiful heart they had ever seen. The young woman was very proud, and boasted even more loudly about her beautiful heart. Suddenly, an old woman appeared at the front of the crowd and said quietly, Why, your heart is not nearly as beautiful as mine. The young woman and the crowd looked at the older woman's heart. It was beating strongly, but it was full of scars. It had places where it appeared that pieces had been removed and other pieces put in, but they didn't fit quite right and there were several jagged edges. In fact, in some places they were deep where whole pieces were missing. The people stared. How can she say her heart is more beautiful, they thought? The young woman looked at the old woman's heart and saw its condition. She laughed. You must be joking, she said. Compare your heart with mine. Mine is quite perfect and yours is a mess of wounds and scars. Yes, said the old woman. Yours is perfect-looking, but I would never trade with you. You see, every scar represents a person to whom I have given my love. Many times I've torn out a piece of my heart and given it to them. Often, they give me a piece of their heart which fits into the empty places in my heart. But sometimes the pieces aren't exact and I have some rough edges, which I cherish, because they remind me of the love we've shared. Sometimes, I have given pieces of my heart away and the other person hasn't returned a piece of theirs. These are the deep gouges. Giving love is taking a chance. Although, these gouges are painful, they stay open to remind me of the love I have for these people, too. I hope someday they may return and fill the spaces I have waiting. So now do you see what true beauty of the heart really is? The young woman stood silently with tears running down her cheeks. She walked up to the old woman, reached into her perfect, young, and beautiful heart and ripped out a piece. She offered it to the old woman with trembling hands. The old woman took the offering and placed it in her heart. Then she took a piece from her own old, scarred heart and placed it in the wound of the young woman's heart. It fit, but not perfectly, leaving some jagged edges. The young woman looked at her heart, not perfect anymore but more beautiful than ever, for now love from the old woman's heart flowed into her. They embraced and walked away, side by side. ~ Author Unknown |

James, This poem speaks volumes to me. I loved every second of it. It makes one think, Is my love worth giving if the one i love rejects it? Deep thoughts my friend. Laura |

Marina thank you for your sweet and gentle words. You know I do Love Lena and I told her last night that I wanted to be her friend, and she said don't I love her anymore, and I told her I still love her but I want to first be her friend and get to know her and grow to love her. Wish me luck because I really don't know how to approach a relationship from this position...I usually move much more quickly. If a woman doesn't get intimate with me I don't feel like she cares for me..but I want to start as a friend and win or lose based on my friendship. Eskendale I thank you for the beautiful words you have shared with me..glad that this touched you. Andrew a very interesting and touching story. I do believe in love...my frustration is showing because I find myself falling in love again and I have a fear of falling in love all by myself...I don't want to do that again so I am trying to approach this relationship as a friendship but I am still hoping that we will fall in love together. I don't mind the long post, I appreciated the message and it is a positive and loving message. ParisGirl I am still wondering that myself..I wonder if it is worth it and wonder why I am so determined to give it..why do I want to love Lena so much when I am still so unsure of her desires...a wise man would move much more slowly...and begin with a friendship...but I have never succeeded yet...so maybe its time I approached a relationship from this angle..I have been telling my heart to cool down and be patient...its too soon to go so far. Thank you ethome for your wonderful response. Glad you enjoyed this. I appreciate every wonderful response...you have softened my heart. James |

James this was powerful and wonderful! my friend, you ask some very good and thought provoking questions. i am like you...always falling in love so fast and often times alone. though i have been hurt a few times and im in the process right now of a similar situation (the one i love doesn't exactly feel the same) i have learned to love someone who doesn't love you is still better than to never have loved at all. all of our downfalls as well as our triumphs in love as all aspects of our life make us who we are. I truly hope that you and Lena's friendship turns into a wonderful romance full of the love you both deserve. take care. amy ![]() "Don't be dismayed at goodbyes. Love does not really exist as it seems, Love only lives in hopes and dreams. James a wonderful poem especially the last two lines. LOve is never simple, it involves a lot of risks and fate, I guess that is what makes true love so special. really enjoyed the poem. ------------------------ "Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time". E.E Cummings. "Art is a lie which makes us realise the truth." Pablo Picasso "We Irish are too poetical to be poets, we are a nation of brilliant failures" Oscar Wilde ----- |

James, this is such a thoughtful piece of writing... poetry indeed from your heart. If it is love that you share with your ladyfriend, a slower pace with her may bring it to the surface. I commend you for being so careful with your exploration of love. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Amy thank you for your hope. It is my desire to fall in love with Lena and for Lena to fall in love with me. More enjoyable...less painful that way...yes. Brian the risk always seems worth it in the beginning but if heartache and disappointments follow I sometimes wonder. Janet, dear sweet Janet, I need it most right now...see how patiently I wait for love. I believe I will find love and most importantly love will find me. Perhaps love is looking for me just as eagerly as I am searching for love. Claire you made my heart race when you said a slower pace may bring it to the surface. This has been exactly my thoughts..and she has said no pressure...let it come from the heart. My anticipation, longing, desires, can only unite with a willing heart. Loved the responses. James |
