The rustic old covered bridge sits quietly now,
watching as the world passes it by.
If it could speak, oh the stories it could tell.

It's deteriorating walls still bear the scars
that has remained throughout the years.
The etchings still visible, left there
by the young couples, desperately in love
who have long since passed on.

The solitary initials of the young man,
yearning for the lost love of someone special,
a love that was never meant to be.

If you listen closely, you will almost hear
the laughter of the children
as they play happily nearby, while their families
prepare a picnic for one and all.

Here amongst the shadows of this age-old creation,
you can nearly make out the outline
of the young couple as they tenderly kiss
for the first time.

But all is quiet now...the children have grown up
and have children of their own.
Maybe one day soon, they too will return
to this early day museum of memories,
to relive the past experiences of yesterday.
