Charlotte's Pond Touching, touching softly, gently, weaving, shifting, shimmering veils of light, rainbowed hues before our eyes, softly shadowed, misty sheen almost hidden from our sight. Midnight's song sad and long, crying dying, simply denying hearts that lived are now gone. Rose colored water, jasmine scent whispered words that were always meant misty tendrils foggy sprites rise from the water in the moonlights glint. Dancing, dancing, two lone souls, twisting, turning, constantly yearning reaching, reaching, but always turning turning away. Charlotte's Pond where lost souls dance trying to find that one last chance, where lovers gather seeking romance and the hope of watching the twisting, turning , ever yearning, Eternal dance. W. James Beard, Jr ---deep in south Louisiana Charlotte's Pond is a place where lovers gather on moonlit nights to neck and watch for the (supposedly) two lovers that died while skinny dipping in the pond as they do their moon light dance. My rendition of the story. [This message has been edited by jwesley (edited 06-15-2000).] |

~James,...I just read this and love it. I'll read it again,...but wanted to get my initial reaction out of me right away . I especially like the format used and the tale told. So very neat and interesting. You know how to write 'em,...I tell ya. So where is this pond in Louisiana?.....I'm honestly curious. hehe. Take care. *Peace. |

This cascaded like rain ... quite a dizzying spell you've woven here. Well done -- and the footnote adds a whole different level ... --Kess YOUR LIFE IS A TEST It is only a test ... If this were your Actual Life, you would have been given better instructions! |

Thank you folks, for the words and the read. It was fun to write. And Spitfire, the pond is still there, or was last time I was in the area, but 40 years ago it was off in the back of City Park in New Orleans, secluded, and all but hidden to those who didn't know of it, and surrounded by forest and brush. Now it's just a pond in a wide open expanse of parkland...hardly the lover's lane of yesterday, and I doubt seriously our mystic couple still dance upon it's surface. jwesley |

Jwesley~ I think it's a great way to tell the story. Maybe they are still there, just now they sit on a park bench and hold hands.... Great poem. -SEA |
