On a faded roll-a-way, she sits with her eyes not still
and they roam the room searching walls, blinking, I try
to enter her space. After regaining a small trace of
strength, the situation starts to ease and proportionately
she settles. "You are my true Grandson," she asks,
and I nod, recollecting how I'd found her.

The time wistfully burns. We lock our eyes aware of it.
Searching for lust, my wandering father found my mother to
fill his needs. If he was here, would he cry
to see us in this rest home, starngers.
I hope the truth's discernable when she speaks.

ETHome~
Oh, how this touched my heart.
What joy at the discovery.
I'm almost caught speechless with
the emotion that I feel.
Overwhelmed am I for you.

Closure seldom comes easy but the discoveries can be sweet.  This touches deep and I too am overwhelmed with the emotions that I feel on this day.

This has the mark of a story, one I would love to continue reading...

will there be more? What did she say? How did your heart answer?

O, will there be more?

both beautiful and touching..I  am unaware of the background...but  I  remember my grandmother...she never really remembered me..I was always, my sister or someone else in my family that never went to visit...when she passed..I cried for her ...and I cried  for me...

Thank you Marge I'm so glad it touched you like that.

You're right Mark closure seldom comes easy and thank you for the comments.

Sunshine..... there may be a story to come out of all this I don't know yet. Thanks for your kind words.

Strange how they escape you until it's too late. I can just imagine her calling you by another name. There must have been times when you got quite a chuckle out of that. Thanks for your comments Maureen.

You have brought back memories of my grandmother in the rest home and a poem I wrote...I hope you don't mind me posting it here.

         Grandmother

The lines etched across her face
are like a braided rug
made from pieces of yesterday.

Her fingers tremble now
as she cradles baby time,
and the rocking rhythm, inborm,
gentles sorrow
as she forgets
the unessential sequence of events
and calls me by my mother's name
and my child by mine
and then herself a child again
waits to be unborn.

ethome, your voice in this piece is genuine, discernable. An intriguing vignette, to be sure.

ethome- It is rare to find a post that forces one to stop and relate to thier lives. You concocted a beautiful elixer of truth, emotion, and flow in this poem. kudos.
