Give Me Wings I know, God, that he is gone forever But I can't forget the years we've lived together And this morning his smile hit me hard inside I felt the tears coming before I opened my eyes... I struggled to pull this aching heart out of bed I was reliving each memory of him once more in my head Now, I'm not sure if I'll be able to face this day He's taken every part of my soul when you took him away... I am left with only this hope I hold I can't take a single minute more feeling the bitter cold Place some golden wings upon me so I can learn to fly God, you're my only connection between my father and I... Let me move with the winds from place to place With golden wings I will find his face I need them to stop this storm in my heart I'm weighed down with the sadness with living apart... Once they're one my back and I'm in the nighttime sky I can tell him face to face why I always cry He has to hear his daughters endless words With only wings of gold can they ever be heard... I want to hold my Dad on the calmest of nights I want us to be shining high in the brightest lights And when I finally have his beautiful hands in mine It'll be forever before I let go this time... Give me wings, God, I need to see my friend He'll be smiling for sure when he sees me again I can picture his arms open at last His heart will be saying, my baby, don't ever go back... So, God, give me wings I have to see for my own How wings of gold can really take one home I want to kiss him once more as when we said goodbye And with your loving wings we'll be side by side... This pretty picture I have been leaning on Will just give me strength for what lies beyond Just give me wings for just one day So, when heaven sends it's winds I'll be on my way... Saunni- I've read all 5 of these that you have posted so far, they are all so heartfelt and full of emotion. I know how you miss him, but all of the wonderful memories you have, and knowing that he is walking with angels will help to ease those pangs. What a beautiful tribute to your Dad. Bonnie |
