This was originally in the corner as an answer to Lost Dreamer's Challenge on tranquillity... but since then I changed a few things around... wanted your view on this one... so here it is... Thanks in advance for your thoughts, Sudhir ---------- The Lighthouse A Sailor's Symbol of Trusted Quietude On high seas, settled an eventide At the faraway watchtower looked I, Flashing signals, lend peace inside, Sending Morse-coded lights, to the sky The Marathon Runner's rushed breaths, Now quietened, calmed by timed lights From distant lighthouse, though oppressed By gusts of cold frosty winds of the night. A victim of summer's heat, and winter's ice, Or even the fiery raging seas waves' hit Be it summer equinox or winter's solstice, Be it a lovely full moon or her eclipsed bit . Many a captain's tranquil thought Lay upon its reassuring presence, That it will always be there, sought To bring out a smile in affirmance. Be it a Godly ray or Ghostly wrath Be it a pirate crew or a friendly ship, The lighthouse to each shows its path, Saluting each one with a welcome blip. Tumultuous thoughts of fear it dispels, A direction to wayward life it does lend, The serene watchtower to me compels To love all enemies and make amends. ----- peace to all ----- Death, be not proud, though some have called thee, Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so; - John Donne |

Suddy....wow!! This is one of those poems that has floooow... (and you know how I am stuck on that!) Hey - do you ever post in Critical? This, if you want suggestions on it, might be a good one for there. You could ask one of the Open Mods to move it for you if you felt inclined to do that K |

i gotta' hand it to ya' Sudhir ... you never shy away from the most difficult of subject matter or rhyming schemes ... vocabulary in this one must have been tough (i know i would have had trouble with it) ... nice work ... My calling before me, let quill be my offering; For to be called poet, no greater gift to receive. M.A. |

Sudhir, Most excellent my friend. The lighthouse and what it represents has always been admired by me. You captured it very well and so your art is therefore admired by me as well. I just saw "The Perfect Storm," over the weekend and I'm sure they wished they could find a lighthouse. Very peacful ending, and I liked this one alot, keep it up. jason Just as soon as I belong, then it's time I disapear... -Metallica- |

Oh, Sudhir~ This is such a lovely, thoughtful piece. I'm so pleased to have found my way through your words of beckon. 'Tumultuous thoughts of fear it dispels, A direction to wayward life it does lend, The serene watchtower to me compels To love all enemies and make amends.' Thank you for sharing such quiet beauty. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Well, Sudhir, I like the half-rhymes and if it wasn't for that, there would have been a rhyme scheme of ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL, nonetheless, it does work. I also like the use of "affirmance" to rhyme with "presence", and in this poem it works because lighthouses themselves are rather archaic.
