-green for her- Poor sad friend, Poor beautiful girl. Aching loss and dark thoughts And humor and love. What can be said, What can be done, When all the statues turn to mud? The dark, faceless statues of future and failure. What do you know when the sutures break And let free trapped blood? The blood on the head of a pin, The blood that marks your calendar. Please, please, please let love mean something. Please, please, please don't be alone. Please, somebody, please take her in your arms, Hold her and love her as I do, and as I never can. We won't die alone; But must we live that way? I wish every day for her was green: Her favorite color of happiness. That every day for her could be a delicate skeleton leaf, That would crumble as she touched it as his words touched her. That every safety pin she holds carefully in her cupped hands Would form a chain, an unbreakable chain, for her man. Two sad, proud wolves out in Calgary, sparking moonlight. Their heavy, beautiful pelts echoing the nightscape season. I'm not that -- never will be -- I'm just a lowly California squirrel. It's only a matter of time before I am eaten. No. I will not let that happen. I wish I could help her. I love her, poor sweet beautiful sad girl. I wish I could help her. I wish the green boy she loves could, too. -girl in the rain- Do you see the girl in the rain? Her color-changing eyes like the clouds in the sky, The shape of storm, the things to come. The things that leave, the things that are gone. Have you seen the poor girl in the rain? Standing under a moon fallen of its light. It should be bright, but its light is blocked By a skyscraper blotting out the california stars. I would like to kiss that girl in the rain. I would like to hold her close, touch her hair. But I don't dare bring my shadow forward. I guess I'm just a coward. But I care. The sweet sad girl in the slashing rain. Look. She's dissolving away. The beauty of her skin shining under the wet. I wish there was something I could say. Come to me, sad girl in the rain. Come to me, and be still. Lay your head against me, sweet pretty girl. We'll stand alone, silent on this hill. There are no words, no smiles, no poetry, no song That will cast this darkness away. Let there be light. Why isn't there light? At some point, things must stop going wrong. Be strong, sweet girl. I'm not afraid to see you bleed. But it makes me sad, It makes me wonder what you need. No more. Let this rain, please, stop soon. Let the light fall brightly again from the moon. We can be alone and quiet in a room With a door, and for that time no fears will loom. |
