The canvas brushed with life-like hue Can make me bid today adieu; I travel back to years long past To carefree days that went too fast. Along the shore in fair Cape May I frolic in the ocean spray In simpler times of long ago Those gleeful ones that children know. I build grand castles made of sand Enchanted by this magic land Of crashing waves and briny foam That chimes a tune that I am home. The artist brings a world to me Of innocence and revelry A masterpiece of days sublime That I can visit any time. 4/5/2000 I just won third place in a poetry contest. The theme was 'Simpler Times'. The entries had to compare Thomas Kinkade's paintings to 'seaside memories at Cape May (N.J.) I guess third place isn't so bad out of over 300 entries (at least that is what I keep telling myself!) I hope you all like it! Denise |

Thank you, Kathleen, Melissa and Marge for reading and for your wonderful comments! You are so kind! Marge, thanks for the compliment. I submitted two for voting for the book, the ones I wrote for my grandchildren. I didn't want to water down my 'automatic votes' by submitting more than that. If I can just get those in the book, or even one of them, I'd be tickeled pink. Thanks again, Love ya! |

Well, Denise, I don't really feel this poem should have been awarded third place. It should have won hands down!!! Wonderful writing, Denise. I'm very proud of you and glad that you're getting recognition that you deserve |

Denise - Congratulations on winning third place out of so many entries. Even more significant (I think) is that you found the courage to say, "I'm good enough to win, and I'm not ashamed to show it!" That takes real courage and faith in yourself. What a wonderful character trait you have shown us all. Forget the watering down worries - I think you should post this poem for our book. At least then the rest of us can claim that we were published with Denise Snyder's prize winning work from Cape May. |

Denise, sometimes such titles can be misleading. not in this case. A truely wonderful poem and what an image you paint. Congrads on your win. "I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else" faster-Manic street preachers. |

d, As you are one of my most staunch supporters ,I feel that you have been dealt a grievous wrong here . I will most definitely hunt these offenders down and make them see the errors of their ways .It should be relatively easy to tell if I have done my job , just look for the hoof marks ! Doc |

I have to say that I would have handed you the blue ribbon. I am a huge fan of Thomas Kinkade and even have 5 of his paintings in my house and your verse is just as beautiful to rest my eyes on. |
