The Shawnee Grandmother At a time primitive, came the flooding of the earth, your new start, says the bible ~ from ours, comes the story. Saved, was your family in canoe so great and large ~ and the woman was our only survivor and living hope. She dwelled there, in the valley in the shadow of the hill and from there she could see the people of your bible. She knew of them from rising smoke of their wigwam, but to her came loneliness, and bitterness, which set in and sorrowfully, she cried. From the heavens came a messenger, and to this visitor of light, the woman gave up her sorrow and told of her loneliness. The woman wept as she was the only one left of all her people. The visitor whispered to the woman "remember how the first man was made" leaving her alone to think of the Great Spirit. The woman then fingered the clay, red of earth, created by the Great Spirit, as was man, and carefully the woman folded the clay, forming children of the earth and she cried. The visitor returned to the weeping woman and reminded her of the Great Spirit's gift and with great understanding she breathed life into the red clay children's nostrils and life began. We owe all we know to the woman we call Grandmother of the Shawnee. ©Karilea Rilling Jungel 7 July 2000 |

Karilea~ Indeed our spirits walk together on this day. Beautiful thoughts my spirited friend. 'The woman then fingered the clay, red of earth, created by the Great Spirit, as was man' May it always be remembered. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Some of us are poets, and some of us are storytellers.......You, my friend, have the gift of both....I could feel the breath of the Grandmother and her joy at giving life. From all of us grandmothers........ Thank you.... Paint your words upon the eager waiting canvas of my heart.....~Sunny1~ |
