He surveys the field of battle, sadness gripping his heart for he knows what must eventually come to pass, victory, in soul's bloodletting. He dreads the fight to be. Cowardice? No. Just love, given to him by the Queen and knowledge given freely by her wizard and scholars. He now knows of truth, seen in her shimmering eyes, truth that his challenge, is to show kindness, love, to all who toss the guantlet. He feels the love she gives, something unknown to him before. He understands his duty, of chivalry, honor, benevolence, of caring for all humanity. The battle before him is senseless, faced in stoic sadness, his sword heavy in his heart. His shield forgotten, not needed, she guards his heart, his life. The challengers circle the field, thier quest always honorable. He watches them intently, not wanting thier hurt, death, not encouraging thier charge. Silently he waits, knowing, knowing he cannot lose now, 'cause her love has given, eternal victory for his soul, even if he dies this night. |

Have I been exiled? Yesterday is ash, tomorrow is smoke; only today does the fire burn. JP "Everything is your own damn fault, if you are any good." E. Hemmingway |
