Who Wrote This Song? When first the music touched my ear And speared my chest’s most tender wound I felt the chords were opening This melody so long entombed For never had such sweet, sweet thorns enfolded round a lover’s rose Nor had a soft musicians hand So magically a love exposed Wasn’t it the samba beat ? That smooth and gentle way we danced Or did we fall in love that night to To bossa’s most exotic trance? It was a night of Carnival But unlike any I had known The night I fell in love with you I felt this music all my own Was it within Lambada sway? That we were lost in lover’s steep The ladies wore those little skirts With nothing, nothing underneath And now tonight these songs recall The nights on Samba’s coastal turf These very notes were ever pulsing On Lambadas’ swinging skirts They pierce the night but no one knows How deep the notes fall in my tears Who wrote this song, this wondrous song? That stirred the hurt of bygone years Now as the song plays on and on The melody’s sharp dagger wanes And washes wounds with sweetest balm Like mellow wine runs throught the veins It mixes tears of joy and sorrow Non distinguished are the two Who could have known that these pure notes Would so bewitch, I wonder who? Who wrote this song, then left me here With just a one single little kiss Who plays the chords of bygone days Unraveling my unhappiness Whoever wrote these glorious notes Knows who I am and what my thought For only I could know the meaning Of a phrase so deeply wrought Whatever magic pen he holds Who ever wrote this melody Whatever muse his heart enfolds This song was written just for me Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 06-12-2000).] |

Music can be quite powerful and sometimes it feels at if it is speaking to just us. anyway wow...and wow... LIz that was amazing such atmosphere, such beauty, I just loved the way this flows. SO romantic. If you don't mind i would I really like to print a copy of this poem off. Along with Post petals this is my probably my favourite poem from your pen. And now tonight these songs recall The nights on Samba’s coastal turf These very notes were ever pulsing On Lambadas’ swinging skirts They pierce the night but no one knows How deep the notes fall in my tears Who wrote this song, this wondrous song? I thought I heard the beating drum, I felt the heat, I joined the dance, I danced the sweet delerium That shunned the weight of circumstance; I breathed the scent with wild delight, But then, with unbelieving eye, I watched it fade into the night: And, through the tears, I watched it die. This was indeed an adventure. You will dance again ... --Kess YOUR LIFE IS A TEST It is only a test ... If this were your Actual Life, you would have been given better instructions! |

Music is a powerful thing, just as powerful as poetry, and just as staying. I've felt like this many times, and you describe it beautifully. "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." -Oscar Wilde |

I am not going to respond to this poem. There are no words I could use to do it justice. Disregard this message. I am not here |

I second Balladeer on that! I am speechless and, of course, teary-eyed. Denise |
