There's a place for alcoholics where they can find relief, Another place for addicts which will help them handle grief. Hell, even smokers have one, too. So what I'd like to know.... Where's Lonely Hearts Anonymous for lonely folks to go? We'd hire a little meeting room. It wouldn't take much dough, Invite unfortunates like me who loved then watched love go. Some kool-aid in a paper cup or maybe some cheap wine, A table for a podium would work out real fine. Our names would be called, one by one, to come up front and speak. We'd look out at the faces knowing we were not unique, And with this simple introduction, we would then begin, "I'm (so and so). I'm lonely. I could really use a friend." Then, after we were finished, we would shake each hand and smile. Strong feelings of comraderie would last a little while And, though it just be temporary, it would ease the pain Until the time arrived for us to meet there once again. There are so many lonely souls - all those who loved and lost, Who took a chance on happiness and paid the final cost. They only want someone to know them, take a peek within, To see their decent qualities that lie beneath the skin. They have so much to offer. They have sterling qualities. Why can't someone just recognize their willingness to please? Yet, all too often, they are marks to take advantage of When all they really need is someone who'll accept their love. Someone to make them laugh out loud, to make them beam with joy, Someone to offer happiness that they can both enjoy, Someone to soothe with tender words when they are feeling down, Someone to make them feel worth whenever they're around. So, hey! We should get organized - the millions of us who Are needful of that special friend to help to pull us through. Then, one by one, defiantly our message we will send, "I'm (so and so). I'm lonely. I could really use a friend." |

I remember this one well! Wonderful writing, Balladeer! And since you've got more friends than you can count, I know this one is fiction! Denise |

I started out reading, smiling, then almost crying at the tenderness in the message and then toward the end felt sorrow, because this is all so true. It speaks of the human need to bond, but then with that comes pain, because you give and open yourself up and even in these kinds of settings that you wrote about, yes there is humor but the message is expressive of the very real need for reaching out and not being afraid or lonely. The worst pain anyone can feel is opening it all up and someone receives, for a time, and then leaves as if to say "sorry, you're just not someone I want to know." or they dont' say but they show "I'm really ashamed of you, go away" I really loved this piece, Balladeer, it's one of my favorites from you now. A word is dead When it is said, Some say. I say it just Begins to live That day. Emily Dickinson |

Hiya, this is "quality" talking.. ...I too remember this but always enjoy reading them again and strangely time has a way of changing the perspective of how you may have read it first time...huh? Hope I make sense here, if only a little..*g* HUSG Brian: I thought a beautiful woman was beautiful because she was loved rather than because she was actually beautiful...i.e. beauty is in the eye of the beholder now rich on the other hand...definitely not...ROFL...sorry...LOL [This message has been edited by RainbowGirl (edited 07-03-2000).] |
