Sitting out under the stars
On this first night of July,
Thoughts were running wildly,
As I silently wondered why.
It seemed it all was upside down,
Or maybe inside out,
My voice was but a whisper,
When I really wanted to shout.
Maybe the tall was really short,
Was I running or standing still,
Maybe the dog was really a cat,
Was that a duck or a finch with a bill?
Were those really stars falling,
Or just floaters in my eye,
When I look down and see the grass,
Am I sure it's not the sky?
Is this a sea of confusion,
Or pond of tranquility,
Am I really sure where I am,
Or if I'm even me?
Maybe it's really winter,
And I've been sitting in snow,
Maybe if I just go to bed,
When I wake tomorrow I'll know.

Hello, I'm a new member...just a 18 yr old chinese gal... I'm not that good with poems though...but I really love the beauty in their language...hey your poem really describes the feelings of uncertainty...simple language, honest and realistic...inspired me *S*

Very interesting...asking the philosophical "why".  Good work!

Maybe in the morning
all will be as it seems
Maybe the sun will be just that
as upon you it's rays do beam

Maybe you'll be woken
by the bark of neighbours dog
And know that thats what it is
and not some god damn mog

Sorry this is where I got stuck, my humble attempt to try to humour you..sorry

My favorite questions BSC!  Loved the flow and sentiments in this ... why ... who indeed?  Well done!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Dearest Bonnie: Confusion reigns! Beautiful poem, and we all go through these times of confusion, I know I have. Just hold on to your wonderful sense of humor and your beautiful faith and you'll wake up to the lovely Bonnie that you are! love, Ellie

Beautifully penned poem!  "Why" is one of the hardest words to ask, because most of the time all you receive is silence never knowing the answer, leading to more confusion.  This poem reiterated that perfectly

Take care,

Maybe is the key. Maybe can come true. Maybe I should tell you this is an excellent poem, maybe I should keep silent. But I think I'll tell you..........maybe.  Very well done!
