So many lives lost And I didn’t really see That they were just people People like me I knew of the war As we can all say But it never really hit Until that fateful day We visited the museum And we walked in the door And I felt such pain I’d never felt before We all saw the pictures And words, written with care But then I saw something So powerful there A brush and a comb I got to see That there was a girl there A girl like me She giggled with her friends Over all the boys And she liked music Her folks hated the noise But in an instant That all changed Her whole world Was rearranged She was forced to a camp In a place she never knew And then, she was killed Because she was a Jew There are thousands like this Did it have to be That so many died... People like me Tears burned in my eyes When I saw the flame I knew from then on I couldn’t be the same I lit a candle For all to see That they were all people People like me (I wrote this after I visited the Holocost Museum in Washington DC. The candle I speak of is one of the candles that visitors are allowed to light on the "Wall of Rememberance", the same room with the Eternal Flame.) LoveBug~ Hon, this is tenderly touching. In the atrocities of the Holocaust it is estimated that 1.5 million children were killed. What a sad, sad blight on the history of any nation. I'm glad you got to light a candle for their memory. Love you~ ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Marge, it's a terrible thing that it had to happen. It will always be a symbol of what ignorance and hate can do. Yes, it was an honor to light a candle in their memory and to take the understanding with me, always. Thanks for replying. That is a wonderful poem you wrote LoveBug!! One person letting everyone know that they were just people the same as you and I!! It makes me sad to think about it when I hear or see something about that time in history!! What a wonderful dedication!! Well Done!! Bridgette |

LoveBug, I know the feeling, realizing what happened to them. Of all the terrible things that have happened in history, I've often thought about the holocaust. I wrote a story about it, and nearly started crying. Great poem though. It offers us assistance in remembering those that long ago were forgotten. This is very emotional poem and I'm very sorry for what you and your people went through. I wish you a better life in the future. Nathan |

Sometimes we forget that the people involved in the worlds atrocities ARE just like you and I. Real people, with real lives. That was a very touching sentiment. |
