I dreamt again... In my dream I had just walked away from myself at the edge of the wood. I looked ahead, realizing the monster of adulthood I had become to the child I was, a flat grassy plain before me. In the distance I heard a little girl singing. So I walked toward her lulling voice. I came upon this young child, only to find it was my beautiful daughter, daisies in her hair, cheeks rosy. Innocent as a lamb, big blue eyes looking up at me, I loved her so. I took her hand and said, " Come. The monster is here." " What monster, Daddy?" she asked. I couldn't answer, just led her through the meadow. We walked a little, picking daisies, when I noticed thet she had become older, perhaps nine or ten, and, oh, she was so beautiful, reddish brown hair thrown over her shoulders, big blue eyes a little less innocent, still I loved her so. " Come, dear, the monster is here," I whispered softly. " What monster,Daddy?" she asked. " Just come," I said. So we walked a little faster, and a little further down, she lat go of my hand. I turned and saw my little girl had become a young woman, no longer my adoring, dependant angel, but a look of independence and rebellion in her eyes, innocence almost gone. I said," Come, darling, the monster is here." " What monster, Dad?"she scoffed. " I see no monster." And she ran away from me. I fell to my knees and wept, crying," He's out there, come, I will protect you." But she was gone. So i walked alone for a while, when ahead I saw a woman with a girl of her own. As I drew nigh unto this pair, I saw the woman's eyes. They were the same eyes that had looked at me from amongst the daisies at the edge of the meadow. My grown daughter looked at me and said," Daddy, it's not a monster. We all have to grow up someday." And I thought, and realized that, indeed the monsterwas a creation of my own, responsibility is something we all must accept. So I smiled and hugged them both, and walked toward a mountain. The Monster was my own. Thomas A. Plemmons Let not a word go unspoken, A thought go unheard, Let not one heart be broken Dream of a perfect world. -Th.A.P. |

Well...the jfirst monster poem did have more "poetic" qualities to it, but no more beauty. I agree with Erin that you do lay down some amazing graces of creative beauty on us.
