Our House Is Dark Tonight

Our House Is Dark Tonight

There are shadows
on the walls
where pictures
once hung,
bright spots,
like windows,
in the dustiness
of the walls;
dustiness that went
unnoticed,
till the pictures
came down.

There are marks
in the carpet,
footprints
of the furniture
we bought,
so long ago,
in that little store,
in the middle of
downtown.

The rooms are empty,
all the blemishes
we saw,
but didn't,
are there
for all to see;
all the stories
they have to tell,
silenced now,
muted
by empty space.

Our home,
where we lived,
loved,
raised children,
grand-children,
that was part of us
for fifty-two years
is empty…
now that you're gone.

Our house
is dark tonight,
even with lights on,
our house
is dark tonight.

James...this is so gut wrenching. I feel the cold, the chill, the echoes of that empty house...and the heart that lives there. So well expressed....Hardrock

God I could feel the emptiness and heartache and echoing silences in the house!! Wonderful portrayl!!

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....

~James,...I have read this now a few times,...once last night and now this morning a couple of times. It hurts my heart and I can just feel the dark,...the empty. Wonderfully expressed but oh so full of sorrow. Please take care J. *Peace.
