I am a Knight of the King Standing guard through the night To protect my Lord and King From those who would steal his right A thief abounds from the night..warning is given He has stolen from my King My eye lay upon the thief Down the darken street he springs My bow is drawn with arrow in hand The arrow is gone on a straight and true course This thief shall not escape ...not tonight It finds it's mark..I have no remorse I walk to the body so still A lantern in my hand....I have to see What person would steal from my King.. And feel the wrath of a Knight..and the hanging tree I roll the lifless form over to see What?..this is not the thief I seek 'Tis a child that lays lifless at my feet My arrow finding the mark ..my knees go weak Now I am in prison so dark Sentenced to death ..for my arrows arch To the guillotine my life is to go I cannot sleep...my mouth is parched The day has come now to die For the sin of taking a life The gate is opened wide for me I walk to my death .....I stop to look upon my wife Be strong my love....be strong I love thee more than life I shall be with thee forever more Where there is life and love ..no strife At the guillotine on bended knee I am My head upon the yoke of wood "To my God and King!" ... I shout If they only understood The blade falls fast and true An instant of pain I do feel One moment in time..now gone Pledge of life..death by steel |

A tragic tale about a tragic life. I like your subtle criticism of the death penalty. Lotharingia "For God's sake, he's a poet. Poets are meant to feel miserable. Otherwise, what the hell are they here for? What are they going to write about?" Tom Holland |

Great story Knights of old, thiefs of young. So where is your youth? Joel. I howl a mournful song, that echos within my chambered heart, for all to read? nay for all to feel. |

Well done, Bustem....you have captured the soldier's plight quite well. There are hapless victims in all conflicts. Hardrock |
