The past came to visit early this week
No not a ghost or aparition
More a hazy vision at the edge of my sleep
The depths of my mind where all is stored
Betrayed me for a fleeting moment
And I saw what I knew could never be.

It came again midweek disturbing me.
Clearer now - so real - so frightening.
Scenes left behind in that place far away
When I packed and ran in search of peace.
Sweat came to my forehead as I struggled
To wake up and drive the demons away.

As the week ends I fight sleep
Not wanting to return to that place
Praying that the memories will return
To the dark place where I had held them captive.
It is wrong to think about this
What was meant to be is. time has seen to it.

~Wow,....nice poem. It got me going,....it's got this haunting effect to it. Fighting sleep to avoid,...WHOA!!! This is intense. I think we all have a few demons tucked in the back somewhere. Hope all is well. Nice first post. Welcome!!! Take care. *Peace.

I liked this. Nothing more fearful than the scary past coming to our present time. We all have our Demons to fight. I hope you find the strength to battle yours.

Hi, welcome. I liked your poem, very true, the way things supposed to be buried will come back to haunt you,especally in a vulnerable time. Don't worry, sometimes sleep can bring the most beautiful dreams as well.
