The Dancer

Dreams of acceptance
To be loved and admired
Visions of happiness
Innocent eyes now tired

Practicing routines
Of seduction to a mirror
Sedating the mind
As the minutes draw nearer

Lustful eyes watch
Every move and fantasize
A beaming happy smile
A mask of a disguise

Unfamiliar hands touching
Fantasies of adoring lovers
Dancing all exposed
Not for a lover but for others

Belief in the mind
That money is all that’s needed
To fill an empty heart
Scorned and mistreated

Silent cry behind the smile
Empty dreams that’ll never be
The dance continues on
For anyone that wants to see

Very interesting subject matter, I don't think I've ever read a poem quite like it.
I love being surprised by unexpected themes. Keep up the good work!
Incidentally, I also enjoyed the icon at the end. Nice one.

SpitFire:  Glad you liked it and thanks for responding!

Ian: I was trying to find a subject matter that I hadn't seen in any poems so far so I chose this one. I actually knew someone in that situation so it wasn't too hard to put it into words. Glad I surprised you and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!

Kat,
nice poem I liked almost hope and expectation in it, also the theme.
Be well

You mean that's not you blowing kisses at me!
Darn! I thought that was one of those one way mirrors.
Great writing kat!
I am watching you though I have a one way computer screen.
Oops! I shouldn't have told you that!! Darn!!
Now your not going to write poetry in your apron anymore!!
