The Clown After the parade when the dust has settled down and the night's performance has been put to bed a fog of isolation seeps into the heart of the clown. The echoes of laughter from the stands only intensifies the ache in his heart as he ponders his life that for now is out of his hands and is measured in sips that come from a glass which by the way is much to close to empty. So he hoists a bottle of memories and drinks from the past and laughs at himself the way they laugh at him. Only he laughs alone in his remembering because no one here in his life now has seen where he's been. So comes the laughter from the sadness of the clown whose last performance is pulled out of a drawer and rattles the windows of houses at the edge of town. Robert if you can dream; you can fly...if you are flying; you are dreaming. |

*sigh* I loved this. The depressed feeling of it, the allusion to alcohol, the painted mask, all of it. Be well Kethry "It is the image in the mind that links us to lost treasures; but it is the loss that shapes the image, gathers the flowers weaves the garland."- |

Thanks Dawn and Kethry... At the time my favorite line was the last one where he finally blew his brains out. His last performance was pulling a gun out of the drawer and rattling the windows at the edge of town. I hope I am better now. Robert if you can dream; you can fly...if you are flying; you are dreaming. |

Robert I hope you are better now too. This brings to mind the old song "tears of a clown", although a little darker. Excellent writing and expression of that feeling of lonliness and that no one knows the real you. Take care Sandra |

Robert, this was really moving. So sad when pain is covered by a smile and no one knows. Well done my friend. Hope you're truly ok. All the best to you, Juls |

Thanks and nice to meet new faces here in Dark. I am better now.....though I still battle the "D" disease and I guess I always will. It is summer now and lots of sunlight.... the winter dark is the worst. Guess I need a sunlamp. Robert if you can dream; you can fly...if you are flying; you are dreaming. |

My dear sweet friend. What this clown fails to see is the impact he has made on the lives of others. He has encouraged them to laugh and see the brighter side of things. Many hold dear-happy memories of him WHICH help them get through difficult times. If he could just see through the cloud of sorrow...he would find much love. When you are old and grey and full of sleep, And nodding by the fire, take down this book, And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shodows deep; How many loved your moments of glad grace, And loved your beauty with love false or true, But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, And loved the sorrows of your changing face... Too bad he didn't see that before he killed himself. if you can dream; you can fly...if you are flying; you are dreaming. |
