Alcohol Sickness Shadows crowd and bend the light, dripping down the mountainside. Night steps turn at visions edge, childhood memories of terror and dread. ...up from the basement falling down poor, dirty laundry litters the floor, smells of mildew, urine and sweat, everyone's crying, hungry and sick... Black and white reruns play through my head. I'll just close my eyes and go back to bed. But something darkness won't let me sleep. Something darkness follows me. forrest 2000 |

Boy Forrest, Sure know what this is all about. Such a well written piece on such an awful subject. Bonnie |

This is such a sad piece. Although I didn't grow up with it, I married into it, and can certainly relate to what it was like. Well written and full of feeling. Linda |

I see it as though I was there One child wetting the bed as an expression of fear. One child crying with tremors for fear of her mother's life. One child trying to protect the fragile hearts of his younger brothers and sisters. One child vowing to leave and never come back someday. Seperate children with emotional scars held together only by one common thread. Love for each other. Well written brother Forrest James |

Forrest, This is so powerful: I can see it before me. And unfortunately a tale that recurs too often! I hope these are not your own memories, though! You write so very well. The description at the beginning of the poem is really creative. I'm jealous! Shadows crowd and bend the light, dripping down the mountainside. Night steps turn at visions edge, childhood memories of terror and dread. Awesome! I do wish you posted here more often! Lotharingia "Dreams are life, reality, creation" Miguel de Unanumo |

my father once had an unpleasant drunken episode when i was 8.. since then i had this phobia about alcoholic drinks.. i was only able to get over this fear when i finished college.. your beautiful poem really reminded of how much life's pleasantries could turn into nightmares.. nice work, Forrest Cain. |

The joys of the old demon drink, I know this feeling well. BY the way never mix cider and whiskey. great piece you described the feeling with gut wrenching clarity. "A frog, it cannot comprehend the sea Nor me happiness" Paul Draper-Mansun |

Lotharingia thanks for your wonderful words of encouragement. I usually post at critical forums and take a terrible beating from those rascals, but seriously most of what I write belongs here. Again your words were so nice. forrest [This message has been edited by Forrest Cain (edited 07-25-2000).] |

Forrest..I avoided reading this because of the title. Too many old memories...too many feelings long buried. But I'm glad I came. Excellent. Hardrock |
