The old canoe was hidden under the brush,
Left there, forgotten many years ago.
Peeling, faded birch bark; splintered paddles,
seats, what was left of them, hanging limply.
Seeing it there brought a glimpse of the past.
Like a movie in slow motion, a scene from yesterday
replayed itself vividly in my mind.

Paddling, just the two of us, on the placid lake;
Over the hill, kissing the horizon,
a tangerine sunset, surrounded by soft peach clouds,
silhouetted the gulls, swooping gracefully to the water,
As they sang their evening song
dusk turned to darkness, bringing with it the stars,
We paused, laying the paddles aside,
watching the moonlight waltz across the water.
Silently, in the stillness of the warm summer’s eve;
leaning back into your arms, drifting past yesterday,
we floated, into the love of every tomorrow.

Looking at you now, staring down at that forgotten canoe,
A smile crosses your face, a sparkle ignites in your eyes,
Three decades have passed, but oh, how our hearts remember.

Bonnie~
Oh, what joy at this scene -
alive and laden with memories.

'we floated, into the love of every tomorrow'

You've a real talented piece of work here.

A truely beautiful picture you've painted with your words ... conjures up a few fond memories of my own ... and is that not for what poetry was meant?
Nicely done

Bonnie; I love this beautiful nostalgic poem.
Nothing will spark up things better than memories of the passionate beginnings. You've put it all to verse so perfectly.

This is such a peaceful poem.. Placid Lake and the forgotten canoe. How we all hope we have our own canoe?
