I stood upon the bank of the river wild and free and saw the Wolf across the way staring intently back at me. I watched quietly, hardly breathing as his golden eyes met mine. It seemed this meeting was not chance it was by the Wolf's design. He stepped away and then appeared a rose held in his jaws. I thought he offered it up to me but could not find the cause. Did I know this majestic Wolf in a life I lived before? And if so, why did he come now and not before? My eyes filled with tears and my vision blurred just then. I looked up and saw the Wolf was gone never to return again. [This message has been edited by Poet deVine (edited 06-24-2000).] |

"On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?" Will he offer me his mouth? "Yes." Will he offer me his teeth? "Yes." Will he offer me his jaws? "Yes." Will he offer me his hunger? "Yes." Again, will he offer me his hunger? "Yes." And will he starve without me? "Yes." And does he love me? "Yes." Yes. "On a hot summer summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?" Yes. "I bet you say that to all the boys." -Jim Steinman, from You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night); Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell. Cool poem. Lady deVine... Hmmmm... is it a "Damned if I do, damned if I don't" situation or is it simply a statement of "Sometimes it's better not to ask." Complexity within simplicity... at least that is how I see it. Liked this one very much... Sorry I missed it the first time around; glad I found it here.
