Dark silence engulfs me, as I lay my weary body down to sleep... The effort is a futile one, for, as my eyes close their scratchy lids... I realize that my mind is not sleepy... There are too many ghosts floating around in it, leftovers from the day's journey... I lie here, wondering why my path always takes me to love's danger zone.. Why must I feel the desperate urge to fling myself over the edge of security into the black abyss of new love's valley, Only to find that I did bring a flashlight.. But the batteries are dead???? My mind manages to chase away the last thread of relaxation, by flinging itself back into my romantic past.. It's a roller-coaster ride turned upside down, and without a seat belt! Then I see the carnival clowns below me, and they each one bear a remarkable resemblance, in the face, To a love-once-known...... I bury my head in the pillow, not wanting to hear all of the old "our songs" that we affectionately designate when love begins... Their words and chords go tripping through my greedy brain like tumbleweed fleeing from the desert wind... The pillow wins at last..... it's soft, cool caresses numbing my mind... pushing me into deep.....deep.....sleepzzzzzzz... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz When the alarm rings!! Today is a gift.... That is why they call it 'the Present'! [This message has been edited by Sunny1 (edited 08-12-2000).] |

Sunny, this is a wonderful poem...really. You touched on a lot of reality here...lying in that bed wanting to sleep while those darned memories just keep running chariot races through one's mind...lousy time to have dead batteries!! I really like this one.. |

Memories, that is when they hit me the hardest too, while the insomniac demon has control.. And the special songs that bring to mind one particular person, its amazing to me how music can do that. Anyway, what I meant to say was.. Another fabulous poem. catalinamoon |

Hello Sunny, Oh my goodness, those alarm clocks have gotten me in more trouble than I would like to think! Sometimes early, Phew! and then sometimes not so early, oh sheeeet!!!! Enjoy your writings, always. |

Sunny1, Great poem. I hate when that happens!!! LOL. ![]() Lone Wolf Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

You have touched on something that plagues me many many nights....becoming a vampire due to it all I think.lol You have presented this well and I found much enjoyment in it as well as personal truth. ![]() |

Hi Auguste... Yes....I imagine everyone at this site hates alarm clocks....most artists do!!!! Thank you for dropping in! Hi Balladeer... Sure is nice to see you here...I appreciate your remarks, and was glad you liked this one!! Hi catalinamoon... Ah yes, it's also the shared favorite song that brings a sad memory later. The words are powerful, but set to music, makes them even stronger! Thank you!!! Hi Sven.... So far, I haven't smashed my alarm (always too broke to buy a new one!!), but there are times it was considered!! Thank you, kind sir.... Today is a gift.... That is why they call it 'the Present'! |

Hi Bill.... Wouldn't it be nice to be someplace where alarm clocks are illegal? The world would be a much nicer place if we could sleep in!! Thank you, my friend.... Hi Poet deVine... I know what you mean...I always beat the clock, too. I think subconsciously I just hate that electronic intrusion first thing!! Thank you so much for reading this!! Hi Lone Wolf... Glad you liked this.... hating your alarm clock seems to be a common goal amongst poets!!! Thank you, also..... Hi Mark.... You must be a night person, also! Why is it that life seems to revolve around the day schedules? I mean, if you're a vampire, the only thing open at 3AM is an all night grocery...(at least that's all I can find!!) Seriously, I thank you for coming by and I am glad you enjoyed this odd little piece!!! Today is a gift.... That is why they call it 'the Present'! |

Sunny Loved your poem. Did a study in college - no one wore watches for a whole day. It was great. Now if we could do a study about alarm clocks! Glad I stopped by. didi |
