Her TenorAfter fame left its print on his past they embarked in the peak of her prime Though her years had begun when his, twenty and one, they embraced in this placement of time And his wisdom and strength were her all Her devotion, his every breath In their loving romance through each season's advance her tenor sang long beyond death And as clear as the night's seaward sky his voice now a serenade's sail The pounding will start in the pulse of her heart hidden deep 'neath the grey of her veil And of late, in the evening's release, a dappled sun setting in stream, she will dance in her mind to her tenor's entwine far away in the flesh of a dream |

i must tell you, claire.... romantic verse has never been one of my favorite genres of poetry... now i do love shakespeare's love sonnets and edna st. vincent millay and several other masters... but, mostly, i find much of the rest cliche and almost difficult to read because of that... lately i have been trying to write some romantic verse myself and from this experience, i have found that it is a very difficult thing to do without being mundane and cliche..the inspiration for much poetry comes from love and romance and it NEEDS to be spoken...and but my point is... i must tell you... your romantic verse is absolutely some of the best i've ever read... and that includes the masters of romantic verse... i'm being very serious... you have a wonderful talent and a command of the language which i respect very much... this piece is awesome! i applaud you! bravo! |

Lakewalker, thank you for reading my poem, and then reading it again. Glad you enjoyed it enough to go through it again. Eloise, "enchanting" felt good to read...thank you very much. Doreen, your words are so encouraging. I also am not a fan of much of the "love poetry" of modern times, and prefer the poetic agility of the classics. For it to be even remotely suggested that my work approaches that of some of the those respected poets is a great honor, and I thank you, in earnest, for your comments. Think I'll just float on up to cloud nine for the night. Miss Marge, I'm glad you liked this. Thank you for your sweet way of letting me know. Michael, thank you for reading. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Denise, thank you, my friend...your enthusiasm is always so nice. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

And as clear as the night's seaward sky his voice now a serenade's sail The pounding will start in the pulse of her heart hidden deep 'neath the grey of her veil And of late, in the evening's release, a dappled sun setting in stream, she will dance in her mind to her tenor's entwine far away in the flesh of a dream Enchanting poetic perfection with a slight touch of renaissance behind it. Beautiful creation you have given us. |

"And of late, in the evening's release, a dappled sun setting in stream, she will dance in her mind to her tenor's entwine far away in the flesh of a dream" --Claire, this is stunning. So beautiful...you have a phenomenal talent and you continue to be one of my most admired poets. *Krista Knutson* "You never lose by loving. You always lose by holding back." -Barbara DeAngelis |

Mark, Thank you. That you found this piece "enchanting" is rather enchanting in itself. Krista, you continue to be one of mine. Thank you. Rex, now hush that nonsense and get out your pen ~ I LOVE reading those unique poems of yours! And so does everyone else! Thanks, dear, for reading. Sven, your words are often so kind and disarming that I haven't any to properly thank you. So "Thank you, my friend" is the best I can do... ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

I can't read all that's posted her - much as I would like to. So I pick and choose - sometimes because a poet has few responses, sometimes because of many, sometimes because the poet has responded to me with words I relate to, and last but not least the title- if it intrugues me. "Her Tenor" won out on two counts - you'd re'd me but more importantly - the title - I saw the possibility of a play on words. Saying all that - I came away dazzled by one of the finest poems I've read in a public forum in my years on the net. |

Ruth, thank you. I enjoyed working within this rhyme scheme, but it was a bit of a challenge, I admit. Wilfred Yeats, your response was rather "dazzling" itself...thank you for reading and letting me know there was something in this you enjoyed. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |
