The evil that men do (part 1) |

I was a hard-headed kid from the start, as I had no discipline, along witha black heart as i was born to a family of five, that strugggled to strive and stay alive, as I was born in a dysfunctional home, where father often left mother all alone, crying and constantly staring at the phone, so by the time I was ten, my parents divorced, and father was gone. So without a father-figure, life grew vigor, as this body of mine, was getting bigger. My grandad beat my grandmother, but that was before I was born, but I still see the effects, of a heart that's torn, as she would hide the bruises with make-up and told a million lies, as she wore dark shades, to cover-up her eyes. Angry after hearing this, I mastered the art of hatred, as it was so overwhelming, that I couldn't over take it. Later on, I introverted, and secluded to the world of poetry, and wrote of how life would be, if it was perfect. With no dad, mom was all I had, but she couldn't contain me, as I would curse her with no mercy, as she would run to her room and cry her eyes out, screaming and shouting all about. So with noone to reprimand me, I began to steal as I got caught a few times but I could care less, as I had f*** the world, tatooed all over my chest. Soon, I began feeling the stress, as I remembered one night, when I tried to bleach my skin, so that I could be white because, I hated my black skin and living in a white man's world, is like a living sin. I thought since God was light, I would have less problems and wouldn't have to worry about racist cops like the unforgettable Mark Furman, who's job is to exploit a black person. ****, no wonder why my brothers take life, for read and blue, it's the evil that men do! |

I had to come back fast...I cant say I honestly know what you have been thru, about you not wanting to be black, although I was raised without a father. This is such a strong piece and says so much about how we all percieve ourselves...thanks for sharing and again I am looking forward to part two [This message has been edited by Paula Finn (edited 08-08-2000).] |

go to the forest, for rest my dear brother whose feet have traveled through concrete traps, and have made a turn to words, truth has your eyes, and you have seen worse than more than a few, and fathers come and mother come and day time comes and night time comes and we are only travelers, and they all go. blessed be and blessed bring your wounded heart. peace Kindly, Redheart Angrybraids |

Very sad Nate...very well written...very honest and deserving of recognition.. I like how you got this right out in the open where you can deal with it directly. After nearly six thousand years of existence on this earth, man has continued, time after time, to try and dominate his fellow man for the spoils of money and power. However, no man should ever be ashamed of his natural heritage, he should always be proud of his ancestral background. I know this is a hard thing to do when facing a huge white wave of oppression, but progress has been made and education is increasingly opening the eyes of those once blind with prejudice. This is a slow process indeed, as you know too well, but it is necessary if we want to continue to grow and mature. Prejudice is simply an opinion made without adequate basis....when you look at it that way then you begin to realize that prejudice grew from common heresy with a lack of knowledge of the real facts leaving it to grow. You are right it's as if there is a a dynamic unseen evil force causing the visible forces to act so violently and cruelly. I believe that some day divine intervention will be needed to overcome these terrible problems. In the meantime I feel it's important to keep trying to improve our relationship with our fellow man. That means each and everyone of us need to WORK at doing just that, after all,.. talk is cheap.... and never accomplishes anything without action. Just one man's opinion.....have a good day! |

All we can do is try our best not to repeat the sins of our fathers. Finding a way to heal ourselves and separate ourselves from what goes on around us versus what happens to us. Peace. Corinne |

Man what a sad poem. I live in nyc and I see these realities of which you speak of. I am happy to know that you are able to let all these fustrations out on this web site. You speak the truth for many poor souls on these poverty-stricken streets. I hope you are able to overcome this some how in the near future. Good poem and good luck. |
