How Green Was the Meadow How green was the meadow where daisies once grew How sweet was the fragrance of wildflowers in dew How happy the days when our spirits were free And the world and the meadow spun ‘round you and me I wonder if you still remember those days We met in the meadow in morning’s soft haze Surrounded by flowers and dreams swirling round And promised each other to love we were bound The meadow is gone now, the wildflowers too I often went back there just looking for you Where do you live now, in what little town Can it be that a more perfect love has been found Or do you still think about wildflowers too The smell of the earth and the wet of the dew Elizabeth Santos |

Oh, I still remember the flowers in the field The wetness of dew as our love we did yield But greener I searched for and now my heart bleeds For deserting the wildflower and settling for weeds. [This message has been edited by Balladeer (edited 08-05-2000).] |

"We met in the meadow in morning’s soft haze" Liz, the twinges of bittersweet remembrances of youth and young love come alive here. And your end couplet is grand. Wonderful, again, my friend. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Thank you all for your kind comments. I appreciate them all Most wildflowers are weeds, but as long as they look pretty, who cares, Thanks Claire for the comment Liz |

I think it's wonderful when you can combine the beautiful elements of nature with the beautiful elements of love and you have done that masterfully here Elizabeth. Such beautiful serene reflections you pen. I enjoy them so much. |
