When I feel this old world...
trying to lay its weight on me,
I remind myself there's more to life
than the drudgery that I see.

I can't buy the things I need
with that paycheck that I get.
And all the stress I feel
isn't worth the blood and sweat.

Everyone wants a piece of me
'til there's nothing more to give.
I'm left with a vague recollection
of the life that I wanted to live.

I was going to be creative.
I was going to be wild and free.
But now when I look in the mirror,
it's hard to recognize me.

I never desired fortune...
I just wanted my work to be known.
I had no need to be famous...
I just didn't want to be alone.

A writer, I never became.
It's just the regular nine to five.
Doing something that I never planned,
sometimes I only feel half alive.

They say dreams only take you so far
and that may very well be.
I guess I just never expected...
they drew the line in Tennessee.

Don't let that line hold you back, Angel. You need another state....of mind.

This is fabulous. I feel so similar sometimes, this fear that I'll never be able to live by doing what I love. This particular stanza really strikes a chord:

They say dreams only take you so far
and that may very well be.
I guess I just never expected...
they drew the line in Tennessee.

I know it may not seem like it, but crossing the line is not beyond you. I won't go as far to say "If you really want to, you can," but don't stop wanting what you want and dreaming what you dream.

Best wishes, 7

Tennessee Angel,
this is excellent!!  Sometimes, you have to step across that line. . .

Well done, my friend. . .

TennesseeAngel~

Oh, to be in Tennessee
Where the mountain meets the morning
To walk the trail others have walked
Memories pass me on this dawning

Fiddling 'round in Nashville
Musical memories it does bring
Heading down to Graceland
where Elvis is still The King

Oh, they drew the line in Tennessee
In lights they put my name
I'm taking my guitar and a backpack
to see The Grand Ole' Opry Hall Of Fame

Others may want to wander
Some may wish to roam
Just leave me here in Tennessee
the place that I call home

*My sweet friend ... this is for you !
Your spirit comes to grant me an inspirational moment.
Love ya'

Lines are made to be crossed.....that is the reason they are not fences.  Never too late to grab ahold of a dream.....I will look for you in the clouds.

This is a good poem that seems just
a little sad to me.
I hope you will be cheering up real soon.
I enjoyed reading this.
