December 31 1999
New Years Eve
11:55 P.M.

Dear citizens of the distant planet xion,
The humans of Earth need your help.
We are threatened by a "millennium meltdown"
of such capacity, that the very future of our planet
is uncertain.
This problem is due largely to our
ever-increasing desire for more information.
Our technology has exploded in the last ten years
and we have had everything at our fingertips.
But we have become greedy.
We have allowed it to get out of hand..
We have forgotten how to think for ourselves.
And now, disaster is looming.

This phenomenon is called y2k or
YEARN TO KNOW.

Let me try and explain what this means.

The year 2000 problem is essentially the result of
political and social issues surrounding
the United States,
the country most invested in
any number of errors.

Forced to decide how to maintain
a watchful eye on
loyal citizens
not yet hysterical
this represented a serious challenge.

Didn’t they know they were creating a huge problem?
No one knows for certain.
Unfortunately, when the time came,
Memory was in short supply.

Consequently, the year will have
a different logic to it,
than in the 1950"s or the 1960"s.
Its final impact will be determined by
individuals and families
dependent on value to function.

The way we deal with it is something
likely to affect our lives
and the well being of our planet.
Time is of the essence.
There is not a moment to waste.

Debbie,
Challenge well met, you explained y2k very well and I loved the announcement style.
