He sat on the back porch, thinking Of his bride-to-be wandering there, How her hair it was silky and flaxen And her gentle speech sang on the air. As she softly came closer and touched him, Gazing into his velvet brown eyes, Her affection, respect and desire She was foolish to try and disguise. Athough their engagement was lengthy, Some thirty five years in the make, They decided they'd wait to be married Before the last step they would take. So for now, he just had to be patient Until she would give him her love, For she firmly believed that this marriage Had been sent, as a gift, from above. At last, all the waiting was over, The ultimate day had arrived! He nervously looked o'er his shoulder To the welcoming eyes of his bride; And as they walked proudly together, The church choir began then to sing; He turned to his bride, as his heart filled with pride For he knew he had done the right thing. |
