I know that things have changed a lot
Since I was a small child
But just today I encountered
A noise that drove me wild!
An institution I revered
Has modernized its ways.
A quiet refuge from the noise
No longer - not these days!
I was stashed in the library
Alone and deep in thought
But then this mariachi band
Destroyed the peace I’d sought.
I guess I must have jumped a foot
My focus shot to hell
By the third “Vaya con Dios”
I glared them such - as well!
A plaza stretched outside the door
I wished these minstrels there
Instead of interrupting snores
(And this ole grumpy bear!)
Now with frozen margaritas
Or cervezas to drink
I would have welcomed their strumming
But I needed to think!
Librarians used to spend time
Silencing and shushing
But now they cater to a crowd
Hurrying and rushing.
Browsers are few and far between
Researchers use the “net”
Just how far from my memories
Will these libraries get?
If I’d just had a rubber band
(Perhaps I’m just a grouch)
I’d have aimed for an open mouth -
Aye-aye-aye-aye-aye-OUCH!

Suthern - You really need to write more - This is soooooo true... I absolutely love it... Next we'll hit on proper attire for attending church - hats on the girls and not on the boys, etc.... LOL... This is excellent..

Belle - Great story line, and terrific conclusion - lol.  You are such a great story teller.  I suspect Toerag got his start by trying to copy you.

Nan: My commentary on church attire might disintegrate into a bashing of my brother-in-law (but that would be fun... and well deserved! *G*) Not too long ago, I (very politely) asked my nephew to remove his baseball cap when we were in church. His Dad jumped down my throat and told me I was being ridiculous... so it's not hard to wonder why so little respect is shown... or why I chose to not accompany them anymore. *S* Thank you for your kind response... it means a lot to me!

LJA: Not a chance, scallywag!!! *G* On the contrary, if I write anything good, I learned it from Toe! *G* (And you thought I was following him around and watching his every move just because he's so dern gorgeous??? LOL)

Dovey: Don't tempt me.... more. *G*

Balladeer: Now that would work! *G* "Library libation"... I love the sound of that!

Kit: I'm still shaking my head and wondering. *G*

Marge: That was YOU racing me to the exit?? LOL

Thank you all so very much. Your comments are greatly appreciated! *S* (Unlike the mariachi band... *EG*)

Suthern
LOL,
What a great way to start my morning. I loved the graphic images in this library poem.

Thank you, kind poets... very much! *S* Mark, Elizabeth, Kethry, Corazon - I'm glad this brought laughter and smiles into your day... I owe you much for all the times you've brightened mine! *S*

LR: Sure, I'll share... but be warned that we southerners have more than one way to spice things up! LOL. Glad you liked!

Dr. Moose: That lack of thinking might be my problem too... but I won't admit it. LOL. Thank you!

Lonely Stranger: Sure! *G* Recruits are welcome... especially if your aim is better than mine. *G*

Martie: You REALLY don't want me to sing... that would be an unbearable racket! *G* (Even my cats cover their ears with their paws when I "help" Saffire sing the blues! LOL)

There's nothing worse than noise when all you seek is some peace and quiet! Great poem, Suthern!! I especially loved the ending!!
