here in the heart of the city
a fan spins
and sitting here by the window
as the lightning begins to flash
I think about everything
         and nothing

the jukebox plays a lonely
song. . . one for broken hearts
my glass and I share a table
it only pauses to let me sip from it
and taste its redness. . . the shiraz
taste of sharp grapes, filling my mind

smoke wafts through the air
clouding my sight, making things seem
different. . .
I wonder, is this all?  There has to be more. . .
the bartender tells a story that no one
really hears. . . but that everyone knows

well, it's almost time to go, I've only come
for the time to write this
the lightning begins to flash more
I've got to get home
it's Monday night at Kelly's
here in the heart of the city. . .

keep the change. . .

Very well done Sven. Such a feeling of loneliness well displayed. And ya know I find myself asking all the time, is this all there is.

Very interesting poem Sven.  I am really liking these different sides of you, you are showing us. A sign of a good poet, I think!

Sven, a wonderfully written piece very atmospheric, very real, can just hear the roar of traffic.
