Canyons of the Heart

rivers run like swift deer
through canyons of the heart
leaping gracefully
around each new bend
and fork...

unencumbered as the butterfly,
floating carelessly on
sunflower dreams...

yet rushing wildly into adversity,
which
like a sharp-taloned hawk,
seizes its prey
in a
death-grip
forcing submission, docility...

like the free-flowing river
rolling gently
through canyons of the heart

That was my favorite part also! Very visual writing. So impressive! I will see those sunflowers in my dreams. So soothing.
