Black and White There was a little girl in black and white Looking through a colored Christmas book Sitting on a couch at mother’s side Her sister leaning front to take a look Beside them stood a tree in black and white With colored balls of glass and colored lights And tinsel hanging down from every branch Glittering in the season’s magic nights But nothing was more glowing at the time Than the face of those two little girls agaze At pages of a brand new Christmas book With pop up pictures drawing their amaze The little blond in dress of black and white A bow of pink to match, held curls back tight Her sister wore a pretty dress of blue And patten leather shoes in black and white The pure and loving gratefulness pours out From little girls in radiant joy and grace With so few gifts and yet such happiness Was of another time but of this place A long lost photograph from childhood The memories erased the black and white And all the Christmas colors of the tree Glowed out from that sweet picture in the night How tender were those days, so poor yet rich That we would be enraptured with delight Looking at a pop up picture book So thankful and so blessed that Christmas night My children see now things I couldn’t explain In candid black and white the simple truth The little things that brought such treasured joy In the innocence and beauty of my youth A moment of my past is brought to light In a simple photograph in black and white Elizabeth Santos |

What a beautiful picture you've painted with your words Liz ... I can see the photograph and the lovely memories as if they were my own. Wonderful! Best wishes, /Kit |

Elizabeth~ It's as though you took me back to the photograph album of much of my youth. The camera halted the scene in black and white and my memory tints it in the colors I recall. A special pen has sent your precious words to this page on this day. I thank you for the nostalgia. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

Sometimes photographs are painful... but much more often, they take us on a lovely visit into memories that leave us with a glow... this poem shines into all our hearts. |

So many things were so much simpler back then, weren't they, Elizabeth? This is a beautiful expression! Denise |

Yes, I've oft noticed the glisten of icicles on trees in black and white photographs what joyous memories... wonderful walk with you, Elizabeth... |
