The Flower that Never Dies Long ago and far away When love was still a sweet bouquet I walked a path, but not alone For he was with me on that day A place so distant from my home On weathered streets of cobblestone In secrets only heaven knows We dreamed of visions of our own How swiftly is the stream that flows In love’s sweet steps, so passion goes He spoke to me with words of grace And handed me a single rose So picturesque that far-off place Endearing charm upon his face I saw love in his piercing eyes And took the rose in my embrace I see the flower as I arise Still touch it as I close my eyes A single rose that never dies A deep red rose that never dies Elizabeth Santos 9/9/00 |

Elizabeth What a beautiful way to start my day! I love poems that include flowers or a rose. The best part was the romance... so sweet. Deb |

I see the flower as I arise Still touch it as I close my eyes A single rose that never dies A deep red rose that never dies Romance, delicate as the rose. Liz, this is beautiful! You've described it with much tenderness...(sigh) <*\\\>< Be an organ donor...give your heart to Jesus! |

Liz - I enjoy this poem very much, both for the romantic bent, and for the neat structure - carrying the rhyming word from the third line into the next stanza. I like the way you finished the poem, too. You have so many great ideas for composition. |

What a beautiful piece, Liz! I'm so glad that I got to read it this morning. True, there are some things that nothing can destroy... Keep up the great work! < !signature--> If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a diffrent drummer. Elizabeth~ Colored memories from roses kept within the heart of petals wept Falling quietly in soft surround Oh, to touch that velvet sound that years of passing cannot erase one red rose in memory trace sits forever in hearts crystal vase *You have such a way with inspirational verse. I thank you so much. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

If Nan had read this she would have spotted in a moment, that the rhyme scheme is that of Robert Frost's "Stopping by the Woods...".Thank you Lng Jhn for picking up on the pattern. I am not creative enough to come up with something like that THank you all for your kind respnses to this poem. This one is true Thanks Liz |

Hi ya Lis, I just knew you were talking about a Rose. I think I'm going to steel it... You do know that today is our wedding anniversary and also RJ's birthday. She is feeling really bad and I can't seem to help unless I give up my computer... You see, her cable took a break. I guess I'm going to have to move over and let her in here to play with you all. Such a delicate press of words here, Liz. You are blessed with a natural gift, and I must thank you for sharing it so freely. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |
