Memories In A Sea Of Poppies Here I stand in a measureless field an endless sea of poppies where many a soul awaits his fate Soldiers fell, where indians once stood dirt upon dirt covers legions of bones a measure of mercy some sought still, in battle, they died with heads held high An old uniform with buttons too large found with a letter, now yellow with age story goes, she jumped off a cliff her grief too great to take ... I stand in sad awe at the numbers I read on an old monument dated 1863 stained with age, wrapped in a time warp of vines Did poppies grow, only to be trampled by a sea of men, who could not see? I wonder ... BloomingRose [This message has been edited by BloomingRose (edited 09-07-2000).] |

A very sensitive piece of poetry... I like it much! ![]() "He looked across the silky surface of the Severn... it was a famously difficult river with fierce tides..." From Jack Maggs |
