I guess a lot of people saw a lot of things in me. They had high expectations of a man I’d never be. Some saw me as a hero, some saw me as a heel- But none them could see beneath, to how I really feel. They saw my fiery temper or I acted cold as ice. I’ve been called a lot of things, but none of them were nice. I acted like an island, I could make it on my own- But none of them could see how bad it hurt to be alone. The price of my survival was erecting a facade The only one who ever saw the man inside, was God- I’ve played the roll they set for me, and, Friend, I played it well- Until that role, from who I am, I sometimes cannot tell. I see the clock is winding down, my race is nearly run- I think of places I have seen, and things which I have done... I’m not the man I used to be, for time has took a toll... It’s sapped my vigor, stole my youth; and left me tired and old. Now, looking down my back trail, it might seem rather strange- But I can’t think of anything, I’d really like to change. For every foolish move I made... to more or less degree- Have had a part of shaping, the man I know as....Me. |

I don't think I'd really change anything in my past either, because then I wouldn't be who I am today. The joy and the pain gives us depth of character, I think. And who knows, maybe one of these days I'll even know what I want to be when I grow up! ![]() Denise |

I agree, great writing! I see much of myself in this. "The heart and soul have no illusion of boundries when friendship is the quest" ~ My Angel. |
