the pain on their faces was so much more than I could bear their agonized sobs plaintive "whys" broke my heart (if it could be broken any further) and at that moment I would have forgiven anything said anything forfeitted anything to save them from this agony I would have turned back time bent myself to fit your cruel mold (do not beg girl!) to save them this hurt funny how a mother would sacrifice all for the children she loves and tonight I tasted real hate bitter and choking as I watched you hugging them telling them you love them "if you loved them enough we wouldn't be here now" (but no, no I won't go there now) and as you walked away I was left to pick up the pieces of what was left of a family and try to figure out how to get them to sleep tonight when in my heart I, too, was aching for respite |
