A Far Off Place Settled for an evening’s rest With head in deep of pillow’s nest I lay with bones still wrapped in ache And eyes just barely in awake An iridescence came to land Upon the smoothness of my hand A moonbeam streaming through the glass Gave room and walls an icy cast It pulled me up from soft repose And with the beam I gently rose It lifted me through evening’s balm Toward places of celestial calm To stars’ and suns’ most distant space We traveled at a moonbeam’s pace And all the heavens would come to know My face in opalescent glow Contentment’s portal I had passed And saw the joy of heaven at last No one announced if this my stay Was marked by fate for such a day I felt somehow that I could choose The brown of earth or heaven’s blues Then in the darkness of the night I traveled home on moonbeam’s light And through my bedroom window pane I saw myself where I had lain On comfort’s bed in shadows deep And I was smiling in my sleep Still dreaming of a far off place And flying at a moonbeam’s pace Elizabeth Santos 5/5/00 |

Lizzy...long time my friend since I dropped in here and found a Lizzy poem. How are you? (Hey - I think I'll email you! LOL) This is great...so melancholy - I nearly cried reading this for some reason. Liz, this is celestial, sensual and earthy all at once, and one of the absolute best poems I have ever read, anywhere. This paints the lovliest picture in my waking mind...I can only imagine what it might hold in dreamstate. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Marge, I noticed you posting at 3:00 AM. When do you sleep? And you're the first to respond to this poem. Thank you for your comments Liz Mark, your comments always warm my heart. Thank you so much Liz Severn, my angel, where have you been? Seems I've been thinking about you a lot lately and now you come by telepathy. Please do write, though I've had little time to do so, but we'll get caught up Liz Claire. I believe that's the highest compliment I ever recieved and I thank you for that and I'm so happy that you liked this poem Liz |

hi ELIZABETH, this poem is truly captivating... The verse I appreciated so much is "A moonbeam streaming thru the glass gave room and walls an icy cast" from that verse on you grasped this reader into the vision you penned herein... There's 26 letters in the alphabet and from those letters anyone can have the world at their fingertips... |

A cynic might say you've been reading too much Shirley MacLaine ![]() |

Coco, Thank you for such kind words. Your comments are appreciated Mike, coming from you ,those words are of gold, and very humbly appreciated Wilfred, To Shirley McLaine, this would be an out of body experience, but this poem could be interpreted several ways, as only a dream, as an OOB experience, or that the person had actually died and was looking back at himself. My interpretation is non of the above. I only was writing words that poured out from my head. It doesn't really have to mean anything, if it takes you on a poetic journey, that's all it needs to do I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you Liz |
