Wiser Eyes

The silent stalls still haunt him
He walks among the gloom
He almost hears the sounds again
The memories start to loom

He walks on now, his step is slow,
His hair now silver gray
His eyes still hold the same bright light
They did in younger days

He sits down now and hardly moves
His eyes sweep over the scene
His thoughts move backward to a time
When he sang of a homecoming queen

Sometimes, but only rarely now
Someone will stop to say
"Hey, didn't you used to be that guy....?"
It always makes his day

His daughters come to see him
And bring the grandkids too
They love to hear the stories of
The things he used to do

He tells them of the crazy days
The concerts and the shows
Of having fun, but getting lost
The things he didn't know

He sorts his life through wiser eyes
And ponders each decision
He knows he made some bad mistakes
Which came to their fruition

He thinks back on his past two wives
Still cares so deeply for them
He thinks of them as rare gems, both
Still feels they were good for him

He slowly rises and starts back up
To the house that's been his home
He remembers all the laughter here
And regrets ever having to roam

Though alone he lives through quiet days
He still can hear the crowd
He thinks of all good times he's had
And almost laughs out loud

He still gets mail from his dear fans
And relishes the time
He spends with letters and each card
To them he's like fine wine

They still proclaim their love for him
In every line they write
He feels so blessed to have them still
They're cherished in his sight

Much later as he drifts to sleep
He thinks his life's been good
He'd like to start all over again
And relive it if he could

As dreams begin to take him now
He smiles within his sleep
He's riding out in front again
This victory he'll keep

Memories from upon a stage
Where peace and love did grow
Flashbacks in lyrics of age
Where he once was the show

Turmoil and confusion were the way
For the many souls of our land
Memories of yesteryear I must say
Are but nothing short of grand.

Very lovely piece(peace)

loved it much

AmericanPrincess~
What a wonderful job you did with this concept.
Tracing the steps of his rock and roll
to the steps that take him home.

I'll bet there are many idols who stood
on the stage as celebrities that have these
very recollections.

I enjoyed the read very much.

Princess....Princess....what can I say!  You have excelled all expectation with this one.
I laughed...then I cried (yes real salty ones!) then I reflected on how nice it must be to reach a ripe old age and look back on your achievements....not just the usual small dents that people make but whopping great creaters that influenced and shaped peoples lives......magic!
You must write more my friend..xx

I like it very much, princess. I doubt if there are many past rock stars who can remember anything!

Thank you James.. I tried!

Thank you Marge...I personalized this abit for this particular celeb, which his fans will notice, but I think you're right, alot of the stars of the past will have the same feelings. What a big part of our young memories they were!

Thanks again,

This made me think for some reason, of Rick Nelson, who never made it to 85, sadly. But I know it applies to many. Great poem, I truly enjoyed it.

Dear Cat,
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, it's a shame about Rick Nelson..but this one's not about him...this one's about a "Daydream Believer!" Nuf said!
