Even though some of you have seen this before, i thought I'd share it again for Kethry's Australiana Challenge

They came from the Irish lower classes,
Ned Kelly and his gang,
Always hard done by the local authorities,
Neddy had a plan.

In 1878, Victoria, Australia,
It all started so innocently,
Ned's brother Dan had stolen some horses,
And should pay accordingly.

But Ned wouldn't hear of this,
He and Dan escaped to the hills,
Two other friends joined them,
They'd rather fight than bend to rules.

They formed the notorious Kelly Grang,
Stealing from the rich to help the poor,
A poor family would awake one morning,
There'd be food, valuables or money at their door.

The local police force,
Raided the Kelly Gang's camp,
Ned fought back and shot 3 policemen,
They then become the State's most wanted.

Twas a high price on their heads,
But that didn't worry them,
They continued with their helping ways,
No one could stop them!

They manufactured sheets of iron,
To protect themselves from the bullets,
Then oh surely they would be unstoppable,
The iron would stop any stray bullets.

Then in 1880 betrayed by a so called friend,
In the town of Glenrowan they were ambushed,
It was time for the final showdown,
The coppers hid in the bush.

The battle raged for hours,
The scent of gun smoke filled the air,
Dan Kelly and Steve Hart were killed,
And Ned lay dying there.

But they wanted him alive,
To punish even more,
Not let him go out in glory,
And Neddy knew the score.

He recovered well enough,
The courts all found him guilty of horrendous crime,
His sentence to hang by the neck until dead,
No escape for the working class hero this time.

After a brief respite,
And tearful goodbyes with his Mother and Sisters,
Ned Kelly a dead man walking,
Was lead to the hanging rooms.

And as the rope was placed around his neck,
Ned was asked if he had any final words to say,
He looked up, his eyes burning with life and spirit,
"Such is life!" he chose to say.

So on November 11th, 1880,
After his final words were spoken,
Ned Kelly Australia's most famous bushranger,
Was hung by the neck until it was broken.

And even 120 years later,
Old Neddy is still referred to as a hero,
And many, many Australian's like to quote,
"Such is Life!" like their hero did so long ago.

Edward Kelly
1855 - 1880
