Long John was a sailor
Who braved the seven seas
A pirate's pirate was Captain John
No tougher man than he

He sailed his men to far off lands
In search of buried treasure
He filled his coffers to the brim
His exploits beyond measure

A warring ship, now and again,
Would break horizon's view
He'd call his mate for his red shirt
And victr'y he'd pursue

With sword in hand,
He'd lead the battle
He'd fight down to the knuckle
His crew fought brave
Behind the man
Who put the swash in buckle

One day the mate approached the man
His courage summoned up
And asked him of the red shirt
Was it worn for luck?

Long John laughed a pirate's laugh
And then he told his mate
'The red shirt will not show my blood
My men won't hesitate'

The mate was proud to serve a man
So brave, so bold, so true
He knew there'd never be a fight
He could not get them through

One day then there came a shout
A warning from the high mast
'Ten ships off the port bow lads--
to stations men and be fast'

Long John spied the battleships
Cried 'Men let's guard our riches'
He then turned to his first mate and
Said 'please bring my brown britches!'

Local Rebel, you have so outdone yourself again.  I love this challenge ya'll have going on.  Don't understand it all as I'm new, but trying to stay up as best I can.  I thought I would fall out of my chair on that last line.  Greatly done and enjoyed so much.

I seeeeee.  Even Rebel takes these shots at my undeserved poor body.  How can I ever repay this scoundrel, this scalawag, this rascal???!!!  Wait...  Is that a muse on the horizon I see?  And she's coming this way??  Yes!  It's Erato, and Rebel is about to join his oppossum prey... where he deservedly belongs.

BTW - Rebel - Great poetic conversion of a classic tale of piracy on the high seas.
