Poor Boy Matthew’s the youngest of three, chubby and slow-witted, a natural born whiner last on the list for family praise, his older brother the stellar student and mini replica of his old man, his sis, the athlete of the family with enough track and field trophies to fill the family room. The minute we arrived at the state fair he started crying hungry I watched in disgust as he ate his way through food booths pizza, hotdogs, BBQ’d corn slathered in butter, his parents letting him gnaw through the remains of their ribs, making yummy sounds, licking his greasy lips, pointing to the ice cream kiosk. He lost interest when the scenery changed from food to farm animals couldn’t see pigs and cows as lunch, I felt vaguely sick in the realization his parents feed his need for love with food. © 2000 Corinne Bailey [This message has been edited by Corinne (edited 08-29-2000).] |

~Corinne,...your writing always reaches me deep inside. I truly admire your talent. You really know how to capture things and portray them so that it's like I'm there. Your message is loud and clear. Thank you. Please take care. *Peace. |

Thanks, Robert - they'd kill me if they saw this poem! Seymour, thank you! Thanks, Park, yes, I don't think they realize that they are enabling life long bad habits and reinforcing his total lack of self-esteem. Thank you kindly, Spitfire! Corinne |
