Earth 3rd Rock from the sun!!

0 posted 2000-08-28 11:52 AM

there's a river that flows
where to no one knows
there's a lady who wears
rings on her toes
though her fingers are bare
as she silently weeps another tear
she gave herself this cross to bear
willingly welcoming it
and there's no time for pity
her heart was set on being free
just as the years were closing in
she went and committed
the ultimate sin
she has no shame
knows she has
only herself to blame
and this old world
can be colder than she knew
they used to call her babyblue

she knew it wouldn't be easy
to set her soul free
had to take her chances
find a way out
now in transition
in limbo
sitting there
the clock ticks
seconds moving
'round and 'round
until all meaning fades
of love lost
went away
time wasted
on someday
and she sits
and she stares
and she wonders
why all her daydreams
have faded away

and what would have happened
if just for a second
she had considered him
she needs someone to tell her
how it could have been
holding on to all she has left
she struggles on, through lifes' test
and don't think for a moment
she has any regrets
in  world of darkness
trapped by society
trying to be everything
they expect her to be
everything to everyone
'till it all comes undone
and he couldn't give her
all that a woman needs
it was never the Garden of Eden

and she knew it wouldn't be easy
for years longing
to set her soul free
had to take her chances
she sees her way out
now in transition
in limbo
sitting there
the clock ticks
seconds moving
'round and 'round
until all meaning fades
of love lost
went away
time wasted
on someday
and she sits
and she stares
and she wonders
why all her daydreams
have faded away

and the memories don't haunt her
like they used to
and she doesn't cry at night anymore
when she thinks of you
and the halo you put over her head
she now leaves hidden under her bed
and the clock still ticks
the seconds away
life goes on
she knows everything has to be OK
the sun still shines
the moon still glows
and she guesses that's just
the way life goes
and even in her deepest dreams
she knew she couldn't hold this
love together at the seams
so with tear stained eyes
she wrote that note
left it lying by the door
signed it "love you forever more"
she'd hoped he'd understand
love couldn't keep her there
locking the door behind her
as she wiped away a tear

  Oh, JulieAnn...
I am going to keep this one, for certain. You just peeked into my life and wrote it all down, beautifully....I might add!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

I have to be honest... usually when I see a poem of this length, I hit the "back" button... but with this one... I just couldn't.  I had to know!!!  Enjoyed!!!

JulieAnn-I have read many many of your poems and now tis time for me to confess.  Love them all I do, but this one is the most beautiful poem you have done as I see it.  It has so many emotions piled in it and well the format and the length and the flow are all just so pertect.  You have made a giant leap in this one.  Loved it much

Perhaps baby blue has some regrets and yet she knows that to fulfil her needs and desires she must move on....James

Julie, you have also looked into my heart on this one. I am overwhelmed with the words here, the flow and the powerful emotions coming out. The line "Time wasted on someday", expresses it all. LOVE this.
