Quinella’s Dream – The Observed Conversation [Part VIII]

[Story Parts I – VII: Quinella dreamt of a Knight, and shared the vision with her mother. She went to Wizard Nor for a dreaming potion. Under a spell, Quinella’s dream becomes nightmarish, which Nor recognizes, in which he acknowledges that Konrad will be his enemy, and foretells his coming. Konrad arrives, searching for a vision from his dreams. Quinella wakes from her spell; Konrad continues his Quest; Nor pledges his love to Quinella.]

O for the shade of this
wide oak,
for I must seek quietude, my
brain is still
fuddled from last
night’s abhorrence…

why woulds’t I go to
Nor, the little frog,

nay did he bestow me the
potion I asked,
but he bewitched cruel tricks
upon my heart,

and kept from me the most
agreeable of dreams

and I would envisage so, of
my Knight.

I know not
thy name, but I
will know mine heart
in his earthy eyes

when first I behold him. O
should all memories of last
eve’s horrors never frequent me
again, and pray they

ride swiftly away on
blackest of steed…

what? What is that I hear,
there, coming from thy dusky
woodsland? O good ness,
cease pounding, for I
must be aware…

~~~~~~~~~~~
Ah thy great steed,
we finally are acquitted
of this thick forested area,
and step herein where thou
shall be warmed,
in the meadow’s light ~
here, good steed,
eat and drink thy fill
and I will allow thee rest..
but wait,
there, under thy large oak-leafed
branches, what form dost I espy,
tis womanly in figure,
I shall ask her
of my surroundings…
‘Halt! Come, maiden,
let me tarry your way a
moment, I would ask of you…’
Konrad seizes hold of Quinella’s arm and
in turning her to face him, gasps…
‘Maiden, I pray you,
please allow me to see
thine face,
let me hear, O hear
a small word,
from thy ruby lips,’
Quinella raises her eyes to Konrad’s face…and
recognizes the face of her good dream
‘O sweet dream,
woulds’t thou be?
I beckon,
may be, there be
a You?
O yon dream, O true lad,
nay no lad, be thy a true man
O a love, my beloved, I entreat thee
do not have an evil brother,
I have seen thy mask,
O love,
I know thy spirit true….’
and gazing into oceanic pools of light, Konrad
is smitten by the voice that Jason must have heard…
‘Tis you? Is it thy voice
that be your voice,
that haunts all my days
and nights,
all my hours and minutes
and breathing moments?
Dost thou own these
beauteous eyes, these rubied
lips?
I am forward, and I speak
rash, but I would touch
thy auburn air,
and I would breath in
your essence for
all time,
O gentl’st maiden,
would thou utter assurance
to me
once again?’
‘Sir Knight, you affrighted
my senses, I know
thy visage not,
but I would communicate
with thee, momentarily,
as thee gladdens me
with thy bidding…
as I have perceived your
vicinage in my psyche,
and I am reticent
from telling
thee more,
for thou woulds’t think me
forward.’
As Quinella gazes into the earthy eyes of Konrad,
and Konrad into the aquamarine eyes of Quinella,
neither notice another…
Cruelest gods…forsaking me!
Allowing her the glimpse of
this loathsome blockhead,
this Knight…
this interloper
who would come and procure from
me my sweetest, my loveliest
Quinella,
my quintessence,
my life’s soulmate…
I will not have him gape into
her eyes thus! I will not
sanction him to heed
her words
slipping
from her ruby lips!
But she has seen him! O cursed
potion, I bring thy spirits to
her too, too late! I must
persuade her he is a
devil incarnate,
evil is his brother…
ah yes, at my bidding,
I shall win her over
with wit, for thy Knight knows not
this land, neither its
people, and I will
guile him into displaying
his incompetency and
he shall elucidate himself
as a dundering clumsy oaf,
for I have naught the magnificence
of this Knight to win over
Quinella,
but I shall triumph over him,
to her,
with
intellect and parlance…
and I will woo her steadfastly
so that her affections
shall be mine.
Curse him,
he chills my blood…
'Tis preposterous, it really is...
that I find this on the second page,
unanswered thus far...
..
..
but then who can stem the flow of the tide,
the force of the storm and the power of the wind
..
..
such maginficent poetry....
that flows not only withing itself...
but conjoins ever so beautifully with the
other parts I through VII
as the streams join up in a river
and the river joins up with others
forming the great sea...
.... such is the beauty of this poem
that I remain subdued and amazed...
Thanks a great deal, Karilea, for keeping the story on and on that a hungry reader like me can feast upon such princely delights...
regards,
sudhir
I would vote for charm and Honor!!!
Both last forever. . . whereas intellect passes. . .
Wonderful Karilea. . . please tell me that there's more!!!
'Tis but a dream fulfilled
that thou has placed before mine eyes
thine words in tale bestows upon mine heart
those worlds before mine life,
those places, by choice,
where I woulds't be a part.
Down through VIII now...and wondering how you hold it all together and keep it going.  Good job, my friend.
Good Sir James, see thou nine parts and you've but completed eight, so may you partake of all sweet Quinella's dreams and in finding yet one more set, be patient then till week's end, and more, Sire, shall be yours.
Ah, finally the characters are together. Will the fair Cinderella-like maiden be taken into the arms of Sir gallant Knight, or will, with toads and rats whiskers and an owl's hoot bewitch the chaste and proper maiden and turn her eyes toward the accursed Wizard?
